2. Forthcoming Workshops

The Shaman as Artist and Creator

Creativity is the quintessence of the human experience. Many of us have received an education that has been expressly designed to make us conform to the notion of being a consumer and an obedient citizen. This indoctrination is disempowering to our spirit; with the result that we can become impoverished losing contact with the beautiful magical child that resides within all of us. Creativity is not something we need to learn, it is within each and every one of us, it is a power that needs to be unleashed. For me, it is one of the most gratifying experiences to witness people discovering and expressing their innate creative magic.

This residential workshop is held in a beautiful valley near Zarneşti and is limited to 24 participants. So if you want to attend make sure to book early.  This innovative, empowering workshop was very well received last year.

The Shaman’s Journey to Freedom

Life is not a problem to be solved, nor a question to be answered. Life is a mystery to be experienced.
Alan Watts

The beauty and power of a workshop is participation in the experiential and ultimately the personal revelation. We read books on personal growth and spiritual wisdom, and perhaps in our culture we have to read such books to fulfil our heartfelt longing for authentic wisdom and a sense of belonging to something greater than ourselves. And yet, true knowledge and personal power can never come from the pages of a book or someone else’s account of their journey. It can only come from our own experience, from discovering who we are, and how we are going to live. This workshop offers you that opportunity.

The process of initiation is a life-changing experience enabling us to be born anew to a world that we create for ourselves through conscious awareness and a new sense of confidence and power.

This residential workshop is in two parts; and will decidedly challenge you. It is the adventure of the Soul Warrior. During this course there will be a firewalk, and the Embrace of the Earth (all night) Ceremony. These are acts of power that offer true transformation, liberation and inner freedom.

3. Shamanic Healing and Soul Retrieval Training

The first weekend started in February, I am delighted to be working with another excellent group over the next months. As the course is now underway it is effectively closed, although participants from last year’s programme who missed a module can attend the relevant weekend.

In 2015 I plan to hold the second Practitioner’s year advanced training. This course is open to those who have completed the first year. I used to hold this training in the UK over many years, but to realise this in Romania it is necessary to build up sufficient participant traction. This is now starting to happen. The advanced training course includes a Certification of Proficiency programme. I will write more about that further down the road.

4. Feature: The exquisite art of the Shipibo people

Pablo Amaringo describes in his art how shamans use colours, shapes, and sounds, as they are all symmetrical patterns of energy. In the West we call the ability to sense this underling structure of energy synaesthesia. This is the term used for a sensory experience in which there is a ‘cross-over’ or union between the senses, so sounds and shapes can have an aroma, or a colour. People who have synaesthesia perceive the world in a very different way than the majority. For some reason it is regarded as a neuro-cognitive disorder. I see it as an evolutionary ontogenesis, towards an expanded multi-sensory experience.

Traditional cultures understood that sound was in effect audible energy. This is the underlying concept of the art of the Shipibo people of the Upper Amazon. Their unique art is formed of highly complex geometric patterns. These patterns represent an all-pervading magical reality, a visual sound map that challenges the Western linguistic heritage and rational mind.

For many years I have been fascinated by the complex and unique geometric art of the Shipibo, and have been collecting their textile and ceramic art. For those who would like to know more about this click on the link to read my article Communion with the Infinite

5. Individual Sessions

I hold personal one-to-one consultations in Brasov and in Bucharest. If you have interest in a consultation / healing session please let me know. During March, I will be in Bucharest holding individual sessions Monday 17th to the 19th. Please contact Aurel Mocanu ( for Bucharest, and Alex Anton for sessions in Brasov (, both these gentlemen provide an outstanding interpretation of my complicated English idioms.

I also do healing sessions and consultations on SKYPE. If time and distance is an obstacle, then this could be a useful way to work with me. I have worked this way with international clients before SKYPE existed using an old fashioned speaker phone. Any questions about this please feel free to contact me.

6. Sharing the Newsletter

I’ve been asked if it is okay to share the Newsletter with your friends and so on. Please feel totally free to do so. It is great that we have this amazing technology to communicate with each other. There is so much downbeat information (and disinformation) being spread around about the threat posed by the global communications systems – but let’s not forget that it also opens new horizons and a whole range of potential for us (the people) to connect and communicate with each other. This is something that was not available to previous generations. Of course I know that you all know this, but reading some of the posts on blogs, forums, and Facebook, it appears that what so many people see is only the downside rather than the awesome upside. It is one of the most splendid ironies of our time, to read and see people complaining about the internet and modern technology whilst using…..(wait for it) the internet and computer technology.

Please note that ‘state of the art’ buttons are placed below for your sharing convenience.

7. From Howard’s Hammock

My Miscellaneous Musings for the Mystical Month of March

“There will come a time when a diseased condition will not be described as it is today by the physicians and psychologists, but it will be spoken of in musical terms, as one would speak of a piano that was out of tune.”
Rudolf Steiner

I have recently discovered the miracles of Internet Radio, it is awesome, there are stations dedicated to single bands, singers, and genres – music everywhere. I know you all know this, but I’m an old fashioned guy and still have to catch up with all of this cutting edge stuff. Anyway, it got me thinking …..that once upon a time (until 1887 in fact when Emile Berliner invented the gramophone) the possibility of hearing recorded music did not exist. Music was only available ‘live’ so to speak. This meant that you may have only heard a piece of music that you loved just a few times in your life, and so each time that must have been a sublime moment.

Then I recalled a conversation with the great visionary artist, dear friend and teacher Pablo Amaringo when we were working on the book ‘The Ayahuasca Visions of Pablo Amaringo’ about religion; he said “I see religion as something that is open and free, just as one has the freedom to choose the colour of one’s clothes. No one should tell you what to wear, and this is how religion should be. In this respect, in compiling this book we share a facet of religion, because we endeavour to understand each other. What we are doing together here is like a religion—it is something we are determined to do, and it liberates us.”

Pablo also spoke about music, “The ícaro is the sound of the universe, the planets, stars, comets, and supernovas. Everything is created by music, by vibration, by sound. When the celestial spirits enlighten us with their wisdom we receive the ability to sing ícaros and we become part of a divine choir. Music is universal and we are made of primordial vibration. Ícaros are the music of creation”.

Then the two disparate thought streams merged, and I asked myself – What if? (And it is a huge ‘what-if’). That in the future, music takes the place of religion? The visionary Rudolf Steiner recognised that music is a powerful transformative medium; he understood that it influences our moods, emotional states, and health. It is something that brings harmony and balance into our lives. Music or sound is a perceptible manifestation of the primordial energy that underlies the geometric nature of physical matter.  The ancient sages and philosophers of all traditions possessed a profound understanding of how sound shapes reality; what we now call Sacred Sound or Sacred Geometry (in my view it’s the same thing). The combination of sound vibration and how it affects physical matter is well documented. An example of this is the work of Dr Hans Jenny, who developed the extraordinary body of work he called Cymatics. In this he dramatically demonstrates how music shapes matter. To read more about Cymatics click on the link.

On a purely anecdotal note, whenever I’m feeling rough, I just play some Elvis, and within a few minutes, I’m singing and rocking along, and my blues have evaporated. I’m sure there is potential for a compilation album ‘The Healing Sounds of Elvis”.

So consciously bring music into your life. Do this with awareness, and pay attention how music influences your state. For example, when I’m writing I often play Bach, there is a certain precise mathematical geometric vibration in his music that enhances my thought processes and creativity.

Music is something we all share, unites us all, moves our body and emotions, is uplifting, and connects us to the source of creation itself. That is my kind of religion, no dogma, no allegorical tales masquerading as truth…. just music.

May the composers and musicians of the world be blessed and double blessed, life without you would be unimaginable.

What do you think about music, how would your life be different without it? Let me know I would love to hear your views.
